All About Chains

Thousands of years ago, the Northern Italians were considered the best at the making of exquisite jewellery.  Today, Italy is still considered the jewellery capital of the world and sets the standard in style, quality and design.  Italy is also largest producer of fine gold chains which are supplied throughout Europe, the United States of America, Australia and New Zealand, as well as to many other countries around the world.

Gold and silver chains are some of the most popular forms of jewellery.  Varying in length, weight and complexity of style, they are sold to wear with pendants, as well as in the form of necklaces, anklets and bracelets.

Very fine chain styles can take considerably longer to make than those with large, open links, although they will weigh considerably less.  Chains are available in solid, machine-made form, hollow form and hand-made, which can be hollow or solid.

Some of the most popular chain styles available include Belcher, Curb, Cable, Figaro, Snake, Wheat, Box, Omega and Anchor.

Those most commonly used to hold a pendant include Curb, Belcher, and figaro.  The most popular pendant length chains are around 40cm (16") to 45cm (18") in length.
